An interactive e-book is more than a pdf or static electronic document. This e-book includes text and a wide range of interactive elements (e.g. hyperlinks, photo galleries, video galleries, interactive graphs, interactive maps, interactive data/knowledge filters, etc.) drawing upon multiple online resources.
This Country Environmental Analysis (CEA) Interactive e-Book is referred to as the Sint Maarten e-CEA. After circulation and feedback of e-CEA version 1.0, the CEA Team will incorporate review comments to produce e-CEA version 2.0.
This interactive e-book is organized around four main sections: (i) country baseline information, (ii) discussion of key themes and sectors contributing to environmental and natural resource stress, (iii) an understanding of the governance structure, and (iv) options for sustainable and resilient development in Sint Maarten.
Introduction: Hurricane Irma Recovery Context | Introduces the reader to the country’s previous situation and provides a context to understand the consequences of the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Irma in 2017. |
SECTION 1: he Island and the People, Baseline Information | Provides a comprehensive overview of the socio-economic and environmental aspects of Sint Maarten. |
SECTION 2: Key Themes and Sectors | Provides insight into the themes and sectors related to the environmental and natural resource conditions of the country. |

ANNEX 2: Knowledge Resources | Access to an interactive repository of datasets and knowledge resources that offers a broader vision of the environment in Saint Maarten. The tool allows the reader to classify the information using filters by Category on the data portal and by theme and type of resource on the knowledge portal. Each box will open a new window in the browser and will show the content that is linked to it. To have more information about the content of each link just place the mouse over the box of interest and a pop-up will show containing a small description of the selected resource. |
The e-book contains text and interactive graphics that enhances the users knowledge and learning experience. Check out the interactive elements:
The e-book works on any device having an internet connection (tablet, phone, laptop, touchscreens) and has a fully operating responsive design. The platform and programming provide user interface with a layout design that is adjusted automatically to the device hardware. The e-book is accessible on all browsers, although Chrome is recommended for best results.
A key feature of the e-book is it draws all the information from online services hosted by external services in the public domain. That makes the e-book a very “practical” tool that does not require a powerful machine or high-speed internet connections and allows for “real-time” data (e.g. those from earth observation or shared in-situ sensors).
Another important feature is much of the content can be translated into several languages using online translation tools – for example Annex 2 can be accessed in both English and Dutch using the online Google translation API (Application Program Interface).
This innovative and interactive knowledge e-Book allows easy updating of the CEA contents on an iterative basis as the contents are revised and modified based on continued stakeholder inputs and updates.
